Project 1:Form and Function

This project highlights how crucial it is to strike a balance between functionality and aesthetics when designing visually appealing and useful buildings. We had to carefully evaluate the form and function of the design when we were tasked with modifying an existing bridge to allow water flow to pass through a 30' x 40' opening.

Movement Analogies

Five household objects with two or more mechanical hinges had to be located, and we had to select three of them to use for the bridge opening.  The three items i selected were: pliers, umbrellas, and eyelash curlers. After that, in order to better grasp their mechanics, we 3-D modeled each item and diagrammed their functions before integrating them into our prototype.

Preliminary 3x3 Prototype Table

Using my three conceptual spans and three everyday objects, I created a 3x3 diagram with nine prototypes in total.
